Walt did not want a large castle at Disneyland because he felt that the medieval European tyrants had built huge castles to intimidate the peasants. Walt wanted a small, friendly castle instead. The Matterhorn was built to the scale of the original mountain, about one-hundredth of the size. The Matterhorn was built during Walt’s lifetime, so obviously he approved of the size.
